FAQ

  • How old should my child be if I want to take this course?

This course was designed for or parents of children between the ages of 9 months and 3 years. It is especially designed for children who have not yet started talking or have fewer than 50 words. However, this course is meant to grow with your child. As your child gains more words, you may find some of the later strategies more useful for expanding their language skills, improving grammar, and building longer sentences.

  • How long is each lesson?

Each lesson (or "strategy") takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. A printable strategy sheet is available for each strategy. You can place it in a visible location so you can remember to use the strategy with your child during the day. It is recommended that you learn one strategy per week and practice implementing that strategy the entire week. That way, the strategy becomes a habit before you begin the next strategy.

  • Why choose this course?

The instructor understands the power of equipping parents with effective communication strategies, as parents have the unique ability to integrate them into everyday routines and interactions with their child throughout the day. This course offers evidence-based strategies to help your child communicate—strategies the instructor has successfully used with young children on her speech therapy caseload and with her own daughter as she learned to talk. These research-based techniques are designed to empower you to confidently support your child in starting to talk!

  • My child is already in speech therapy. Should I take this course?

This course is not meant to be a substitute for speech therapy but it is a great addition to speech therapy! You will learn strategies that speech-language pathologists use with young children. All of the strategies taught in this course are evidence-based. Results may vary depending on each child’s unique developmental profile. *This course does not replace professional therapy or medical advice.*
